Home Study Report
As you begin your adoption journey, the first thing that must be completed is a home study report, which is also known as a pre-placement report. The home study report is a required document for all adoptions. It will represent you in court or with the foreign adoption authority. A home study report is an overview of who you are. It provides information about you, your home, your lifestyle, financial situation, health and biographical information. The goal of a home study is to learn more about you, discuss the adoption process, learn about your choices in adoption and exchange ideas and concerns about parenting. The home study process generally takes 3 - 4 months to complete, and includes adoption education, interviews, document collection, background clearances, references, and at least one home visit.
Length of Time
The time needed from first contact with us to a completed report depends partly on how quickly documents are received. The sooner you are able to provide them, the sooner your study can be completed. Our usual practice is to schedule your home study visit when we have all your documents on file, and your home study fee is paid. We will complete the home study report after that visit. If you have already been matched with a birth mother whose delivery is imminent or are matched internationally with a special needs child, please let us know and it may be possible to complete the report more quickly. If you are completing a domestic or a non-Hague home study, the average amount of time is 3 months. If you are completing a Hague home study, the average amount of time is 3 - 4 months.
Families can expect to be charged travel fees for home visits.
The Home Study fee is $1750 for a Hague or Non-Hague report. Families can expect to be charged travel fees for each home visit. Reasonable travel fees will also be charged for families living east of the mountains. These fees are dependent on a variety of factors and determined prior to the beginning of the home study process. Should an overnight stay be required, families are responsible for providing meals and lodging at a hotel with reasonable amenities

“We adopted our second child with Agape Adoptions and it was a great experience. It was a smooth process and the staff was always reliable and responsive. We were matched in a breathtakingly short time and brought our baby son home only six months after our first meeting with Myriam. We definitely would choose Agape Adoptions again.”
